Actor Robert De Niro is already a successful hotelier, thanks to his Greenwich Hotel in New York City. Now, he’s planning to branch out across the pond with a London concept. De Niro announced plans to partner with BD Hotels and Capital & Counties Properties PLC on a property called the Wellington Hotel in Covent Garden, London. He is partnering with Ira Drukier and Richard Born, also partners in the Greenwich venture. De Niro also owns the Nobu Hotel Manila in the Philippines, but this is the group’s first project outside the United States. The luxury property will hold 83 rooms and will include a spa, two restaurants, a café and a central courtyard. De Niro submitted plans to the Westminster City Council, where they await approval. If approved, the hotel will begin construction next year and will be completed in 2019. “The Wellington Hotel would honor the heritage of the area, while bringing the best of what we’ve done in New York to London,” De Niro said in a statement. The hotel promises access to other luxury outlets like Chanel and Dior stores. If the hotel is anything like the Greenwich, guests can expect to rub elbows with celebrities, who frequent the NYC property.
