Indian passengers can now receive compensation for delayed, canceled and overbooked flights. The air passenger rights service provider, refund.me, launched a new app for Indian travellers, allowing them to claim compensation on flights regulated by India and European Union passengers’ rights legislation. The app is the first created specifically for travellers in India. The app allows travellers to quickly determine claim eligibility and then submit a compensation claim, right from a mobile device. It eliminates the need for travellers to interact directly with the offending airline, or fill out extensive forms. According to the India Directorate General of Civil Aviation Civil Aviation Requirements, travellers in India have the rights to hotel stays and amenity vouchers, up to full refunds and additional compensation, following flight cancellation or denial of boarding. The amount of compensation depends upon airfare, the amount of notice given to travellers and other factors. “While passengers have the rights to compensation under DGCA legislation, consumers are underserved by the claims system. As in other countries, the majority of Indian passengers are unaware of their rights or find the compensation claims process difficult. Our new app gives consumers the ability to hold airlines to account and exercise their legislated consumer rights to compensation with ease and efficiency,” said Eve Buechner, founder and CEO, refund.me. Refund.me was founded in 2012 and helps travellers in more than 160 countries claim compensation from more than 370 airlines within the European Union. Travellers using the app can input flight details and answer a few question to receive notifications on possible compensation.
