Qatar Airways announced it will provide a laptop computer loan service to business-class passengers affected by the U.S. government’s disruptive electronics ban.

The complimentary laptops will be available to those traveling in business class on all U.S.-bound flights and can be collected after boarding. Customers can download work on a USB drive before boarding and continue working once in flight.

“As an award-winning and global airline we truly appreciate the importance of being able to work onboard our aircraft, and that is why I have insisted on offering only the best possible solution for our customers,” said Akbar Al Baker, chief executive, Qatar Airways Group.

Similarly to Emirates, Qatar offers a special service at the gate to collect electronic items prohibited by the new ban. Gate agents will securely package, tag, load items as check-in baggage and return them to travelers on arrival in the United States.

Qatar is providing one hour of free WiFi to all passengers and a special WiFi deal of $5 to stay connected for the duration of the whole flight.

By providing computers, the carrier goes one step further than its Gulf carrier rivals in trying to accommodate those affected by the ban. Etihad recently began offering free WiFi and iPads on its U.S. flights from Abu Dhabi, while Emirates was the first to introduce a laptop handling service.
