Incheon International Airport Corporation recently announced a priority immigration lane will operate for foreign business travelers at Incheon Airport. The service began yesterday, Aug. 31. This new initiative should reduce wait times for foreign business travelers.
“With the implementation of this new government policy, we expect foreign business travelers to experience greater convenience when using Incheon Airport. We will continue to actively improve passenger convenience in line with government policies,” said Hag-jae Lee, president and CEO, IIAC.
Korean nationals currently use automated immigration kiosks and spend an average of about 2 minutes, but foreign nationals use manned counters and can face delays of up to 35 minutes on average.
The Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport responded to the delays by consulting with related agencies and business associations to introduce the new streamlined process. The new system allows foreign business travelers recommended by domestic business associations to use priority immigration lanes for faster entry. The permitted domestic business associations include The Federation of Korean Industries, Federation of Middle Market Enterprises of Korea, Korea Enterprises Federation, Korea International Trade Association, American Chamber of Commerce in Korea and European Chamber of Commerce in Korea.
The program will run on a trial basis until December, after which the government will consider expanding to other domestic airports. Plans are also underway to upgrade the immigration system so foreign nationals can also use automated kiosks.
