Last week, Princess Cruises and Holland America Line returned to service in the United States, and celebrated at the Port of Seattle. Jan Swartz, president, Princess Cruises, and Gus Antorcha, president, Holland America Line, attended and spoke about the multidimensional impact of the return to cruising to Seattle, the local community, Alaska and the travel industry.

Holland America Line kicked off its Alaska season on July 24 on the Nieuw Amsterdam, and Princess Cruises launched its season July 25 on Majestic Princess. Each cruise line plans to operate 10 cruises from Seattle through September, marking both the return to cruising and to Alaska for Holland America Line and Princess Cruises.

Both cruise lines have a storied history in Alaska, with more than 125 years of experience cruising the state combined. In the past, one in two guests cruising to Alaska sailed on Princess or Holland America. Both cruise lines have homeported from Port of Seattle for more than 20 years, with each ship visit directly contributing more than $364,000 to the local economy in provisioning, port taxes and spending during a season.

Passengers sailing on either cruise line this year must be vaccinated, with their final dose completed at least two weeks prior to the start of the cruise.

Are you excited to see cruising return to the United States? Do you have a cruise planned? Have you cruised Alaska in the past? Tell us. Email us at letters@globaltravelerusa.com. Please include your full name and location.
