Philadelphia International Airport signed a unique and targeted Memorandum of Understanding with Heathrow Airport, signifying a commitment between the two airports to work closely together to support COVID-19 recovery.
The MOU is focused on boosting passenger numbers, implementing new measures, increasing international cooperation, working with stakeholders across industries and working together to advocate the airports’ respective government and industry organizations. PHL and LHR jointly wrote a letter to the U.S. and U.K. governments to support the removal of border restrictions and safely reopen travel between the two countries. The airports also engaged American Airlines and British Airways to increase cooperation.
“Heathrow is PHL’s busiest transatlantic route with more than 2,200 annual flights and 455,000 onboarded passengers in 2019,” said Chellie Cameron, CEO, PHL. “This partnership will help us safely restart travel for our most important transatlantic trade corridor.”
