OUTRIGGER Phi Phi Island Resort, a 5-star sanctuary on the soft beaches of Thailand’s Phi Phi Islands, is ready to welcome guests to paradise next month. The beachside sanctuary mixes authentic Southern Thai design with the concept of Nit Thra (or the “soul of rest”), which encourages harmony, relaxation and restoration.

The seafront retreat was recently rebranded and reimagined by OPENDESIGNER. To preserve the property, the project took an approach to let the surrounding tropical foliage, sandy shores and limestone cliffs define the resort. Now, OUTRIGGER Phi Phi Island Resort appears as if it organically grew in the coastal environment. When guests arrive by boat, the property slowly comes into focus until travelers are greeted with a traditional “Rub Kwan” ceremony and a handcrafted bead bracelet, a welcome ritual inspired by the local Urak Lawoi community.

Once guests are settled in, Nit Thra will be felt throughout the entire experience. The 63 suites and villas offer plenty of space, a calm atmosphere and a connection to the land. Accommodations feature handcrafted furnishings, unique textiles and woven design features effortlessly blending home comforts with state-of-the-art amenities. Outside, the resort has shaded walkways with seating areas and one-of-a-kind views inviting travelers to stop, linger and be present in the moment instead of just passing by.

Sutham Kessena, head designer, OPENDESIGNER, revealed, “From a designer’s perspective, the island’s essential elements needed to be preserved from the very beginning. Our approach was rooted in respect for what already exists, using scale, materials and forms that harmonise with the surrounding ecosystem. The aim was for the architecture to feel like an integral part of the island rather than an intrusion, while clearly maintaining the relaxed atmosphere and distinct identity of Phi Phi.”
