Delays. They’re the stuff of nightmare when it comes to air travel, and it looks like there’s a pretty epic one yet again facing the new airport project in Berlin. A German newspaper is reporting the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport, which was supposed to be completed in 2012, is again delaying its projected opening. Airport officials are denying the report about the delay.
The airport has been under construction since 2006, but red tape and technical problems delayed completion. The German newspaper, Bild am Sonntag, says “confidential schedule from the airport’s project management company” places completion in 2018.
Airport officials are sticking to their broadcast opening date of the second half of 2017, which they say is still accurate. The airport’s construction has been fraught with challenges and the opening has been changed at least five times. Officials released a statement in response to the report saying, “In a project where 2,000-3,000 emails, letters and meeting minutes are written every day, there are, at times, differing assessments,” the statement said.
