Heading to France? Lucky you! If your itinerary needs filling out, plan to spend a morning or afternoon at Musée de Valence art et archéologie in the town of Valence, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Opening Oct. 10 and running through March 21, 2027, the museum will host an exhibition of works by contemporary artist Amélie Bertrand, including works influenced by the museum’s own architecture and collections.

This show, part of the Résonance programme of the 18th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, comes fresh on the heels of a number of solo and group exhibitions held at venues including Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris; Centre d’art contemporain de la Matmut – Daniel Havis in Saint-Pierre-deVarengeville; Maison des Arts in Malakoff; Kunstwerk Carlshütte in Büdelsdorf, Germany; École municipale des Beaux-Arts in Châteauroux; and Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dole in France.

Bertrand’s work has been described as possessing an atmosphere of déjà vu, and this collection of some 30 works displays a new array of motifs, including storefront windows and curtains.

The artist’s work is part of numerous public and private collections, including Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, MAC VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine, Centre national des arts plastiques, FRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine in Limoges, Les Abattoirs, Musée – FRAC Occitanie in Toulouse, Fonds d’Art Contemporain – Paris Collections, and the Musée de l’Abbaye Sainte-Croix in Les Sables-d’Olonne.

Except for national holidays, Musée de Valence is open Wednesday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m., and 2–6 p.m.
