For the 14th consecutive year, the Tesoro Cultural Center is set to host the Annual Indian Market & Powwow at the site of The Fort, a living history museum in Morrison, Colo. Located just outside of Denver, the event showcases native Southwestern cuisine, traditional dance, drumming and a host of educational activities. Always a highlight, this year’s featured artists include Nelson Garcia, Carol Snow, Lynn Burnette, Maria Cuch, Mark Silversmith, Andy Marion, Eddie Morrison, and Joe and LeJuene Chavez. Presented by the Council for Indigenous Arts and Culture, artists use only natural and authentic materials in their work.
Unique handmade crafts will be also presented, along with an interactive beading exhibit and jewelry-making workshop for children. Entertainment features a dance competition with categories including Traditional, Fancy, Jingle, Shawl and Grass dancing. Outstanding American Indian veterans will also be honored during the event. The powwow runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from May 17-18.
