Marriott International is on track to open 16 new resorts in Asia Pacific across its seven brands in 10 countries and territories this year, offering travellers more choices for holiday bookings, business events and special occasions.
The new hotels range from tranquil resorts such as the beachfront Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa, the company’s first hotel in Sri Lanka, to The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou, China’s first golf resort.
China is currently the world’s No. 1 source of outbound travellers. The China National Tourism Administration estimates China’s travellers will take 700 million trips over the next five years, and as incomes rise, China’s middle class looks for higher-quality products and travel experiences — such as stays at Marriott’s newest upscale and luxury resorts.
“This is an exciting year for Marriott International in the Asia Pacific region as we deliver innovative, new ways to cater to today’s and tomorrow’s travellers,” said Peggy Fang Roe, chief sales and marketing officer for Asia Pacific, Marriott. “Our new openings demonstrate our promise to be where our guests want to be and provide them with everything they need to relax, recharge or celebrate a special milestone.”
Other notable openings this year include The Shanhaitian Resort Sanya, Autograph Collection, the brand’s first property in China; the Element Chongli, featuring an eco-conscious concept; and The Westin Yilan Resort, set amid stunning coastline scenery.
Anticipated openings later this year include the Renaissance Bali Ulutwatu Resort & Spa and Jeju Shinhwa World Marriott Resort & Spa.
Marriott currently operates 130 upper-upscale and luxury resorts in the Asia Pacific region in countries including China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.
