From March 18–28 this year and March 17–27, 2017, One Ocean Expeditions offers a cruise that will focus on live scientific research being conducted by an on-board team of marine mammal scientists. As a bonus, the new GoPro app will allow interested guests spectacular views of underwater mammals in their natural environment beneath the surface of the sea. During the expedition, Oregon State University researcher and professor Dr. Ari Friedlaender will lead a team of scientific experts in collecting data on the foraging ecology of marine mammals and the effects of climate change on their behavior.

The upcoming cruise will include Chad Nordstrom, a research and environmental biologist from Vancouver Aquarium who specializes in marine mammals, their feeding behaviors and their distribution in polar ecosystems. Author, naturalist and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation host Brian Keating will also accompany the 2016 cruise, lending his decades of personal expertise in escorting nature and wildlife expeditions. The Marine Mammals Voyage takes place aboard the Akademik Sergey Vavilov, one of OOE’s two purpose-built, ice-class Canadian expedition vessels, both rated for polar exploration and providing modern cruise comfort for small groups of 98 guests per outing.
