Casa de las Artes hotel opened in Madrid just two years ago and has already made a name for itself as a desired destination for visitors who want a deep connection to Madrid’s vibrant cultural life.

As a member of The Meliá Collection, the property is located in Madrid’s literary heart, Barrio de las Letras, in Madrid’s city center. The property holds a deep connection to Madrid’s literary and artistic history: Even its name, “House of the Arts” in English, gives it away.

Among its cultural spaces, the private cinema room is a standout, inspired by the classic Hollywood screening rooms of the 1950s. Literary lovers can retreat to the on-site library to unwind amidst bookshelves in a cozy and peaceful atmosphere. The hotel also offers a thermal pool and fitness center with a ballet barre, paying respect to the elegant art of dance. The hotel offers guests an ambitious program of live music, a private cinema, dance, literary events and culinary experiences celebrating the seven fine arts — painting, architecture, music, literature, dance, sculpture and poetry.

The hotel enjoys dual access with a main entrance on Atocha Street and a secondary entrance on parallel Moratín Street, which also offers a shortcut to the famous Museo del Prado. It is a privileged location, situated within the Spanish capital’s so-called “Art Triangle” with both the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Reina Sofía Museum within walking distance.

The hotel also sits next to the Cervantes Society building, where the first edition of Don Quixote de la Mancha and other masterpieces of Spain’s Golden Age were printed. Few places in the world can claim such a literary heritage. A personal favorite is neighboring Santa Isabel Street, home to Art Deco Cine Doré and a lively group of tabernas, bakeries, cafés and bookshops.

The interior design and décor of Casa de las Artes was crafted by architect Álvaro Sans and his daughter, designer Adriana Sans, from Mallorca-based ASAH studio. ASAH Studio spearheaded the transformation of the building. Casa de las Artes spans four heritage-protected buildings, anchored by a palatial main block designed by Ricardo García Guereta and José María Otamendi, built in 1913.

Furnishings from brands such as Andreu World, Sancal, Pedrali, Kettal, and Santa & Cole were selected for their timelessness and affinity with the building’s architecture. ASAH Studio also customized many pieces and designed others specifically for the hotel, using walnut, Marquina marble, brass and dramatic velvet across public spaces and rooms.

To strengthen the hotel’s connection to the place, the design team paid particular attention to the art program. In the reception area, original Don Quixote lithographs by Salvador Dalí are displayed. Sculpture is integrated throughout the hotel as well — one of the best examples the collection of miniature meninas (infant girls) by Migel Guía displayed at reception.

A key cornerstone of The Meliá Collection, gastronomy plays a leading role in the hotel. MACHÉ, a restaurant whose name draws inspiration from the visual arts, enhances this rich cultural journey with exceptional cuisine.

Turks and Caicos Builds Economic and Environmental Resilience

Let's talk geology. Caribbean Islands fall into three main types: volcanic (most of the Lesser Antilles, from Saba down to Grenada), continental fragments (including Cuba, Jamaica, and Trinidad) and limestone remnants of coral reefs (notably, the Bahamas and — relevant to us here — Turks and Caicos).
