If you’ve ever dreamt of waking up beneath the canopy of a luxurious bed set in a swish private suite on your own sprawling English estate, you can indulge your fantasy (at least for a little while) at Lucknam Park. Horses? Of course. This 500-acre Relais & Chateaux property includes wide fields and wooded lands, along with stables and paddocks populated by gorgeous equine residents.

A wide, mile-long avenue leading to the main house is bordered by 400 lime and beech trees planted in 1827. The estate — and its impressive pedigree — includes all the components of your favorite English fantasy escape: divine walled gardens, a heavenly spa, wonderful dining options and impeccable rooms and suites. The current manor house occupies a space originally the site of a farmhouse dating back to around 1199, while the classic walled garden and its landscaped flower beds and lovely shaped hedges originated in the 1830s. Garden structures include the 18th-century dovecote, historic vinery greenhouse and a 1.5-acre arboretum filled with a collection of trees that include rare species.

But back to that canopied bed: Accommodations at Lucknam Park include 42 sumptuously appointed rooms and suites, plus a selection of private, individually designed cottages, including a three-bedroom Country, one- and three-bedroom Manor, and three- and four-bedroom Grand cottages. Manor and Grand cottages include the option of dog-friendly spaces and helicopter landings.

Antique furnishings, exquisite textiles and heirloom china add a special touch to guest spaces, also equipped with plenty of modern comforts. Among a host of room features are 24-hour room service; Ruark DAB Bluetooth Digital Radio; DVD and CD libraries and players; flat-screen televisions; valet parking; same-day dry cleaning on weekdays; complimentary car parking and electric car charging ports; and use of the estate’s recreational facilities including tennis courts, outdoor gym and children’s playground.

Later in the day, you can enjoy afternoon tea or pre-dinner cocktails in the Drawing Room. For dining, choose from the seasonal, contemporary menu at The Brasserie, equipped with a wood-fired oven and ingredients like locally sourced fare and items from the estate’s kitchen garden; or fine dining at Restaurant Hywel Jones by Lucknam Park, holder of a Michelin star since 2006. Menus by executive chef Hywel Jones make the most of seasonal offerings and might include dishes such as Hampshire venison, Cornish day boat turbo or roast Scottish diver scallop.

At the equestrian center, you can book a private lesson, a guided group ride or a three-hour Cotswolds Explorer horseback outing in the rolling landscape surrounding the estate. An on-foot stroll of the grounds takes you past fixed fences and a variety of jumps comprising a cross-country equestrian competition course. You’ll also find a collection of bronze sculptures scattered across the fields and meadows such as “Electric Blue Hare” by artist Jane Shaw; and a pair of graceful canine sculptures by Stuart Anderson titled “Mojo and Arching,” greeting guests at the manor’s main entrance.

Equestrian pieces include “At Grass” by Frippy Jameson and “Stable Mates” by Nicola Toms — a sculpture of two elegant horse heads gracing the stone wall left of the spa entrance that seem to be reaching down to nibble on the greenery beneath them.

The extensive spa facilities are housed in a former stable complex located beyond the courtyard behind the main house. Along with a hydro area equipped with pools, steam, sauna and ice bath, there’s a treatment menu featuring mind and body therapies such as dry flotation, intuitive crystal healing and mindfulness massage. Signature spa treatments feature sustainable skin care products created by U.K.-based Natural Spa Factory. Choices include a sea salt scrub and body mask; jade Gua Sha soothing facial; and a selection of themed massages, including hot stone and myofascial release.

Lucknam Park is located in the town of Chippenham a few miles from the historic city of Bath, and less than a two-hour drive west of London. Bring your work with you and settle in if you like — the property is also equipped to host meetings, corporate events and personal celebrations.
