JW Marriott Chicago announced plans to renovate all 610 guestrooms, including 29 suites, alongside hotel corridors and the executive lounge. The hotel first opened in November 2010 and the multimillion-dollar renovation is the first of this magnitude.

Plans for the redesigned guestrooms incorporate rectilinear lines and soft curves for a luxury railcar motif, as well as layered metal finishes, dark wood tones and a Pullman-era color palette.

The renovations are expected to wrap by next spring and the property plans to remain open during renovations.

“Harkening back to the building’s 1914 origin, which was constructed during an iconic period in design, we want to honor the influence early Pullman rail cars had on travel accommodations in Chicago and beyond,” said Hassan El Neklawy, general manager, JW Marriott Chicago. “As we approach our 10-year anniversary in 2020, we thought it essential to reimagine our guests’ accommodations by embracing comfort with elegant décor to continue welcoming the modern traveler.”

“Working with such an iconic hotel, we wanted to redesign the guestrooms to tell the story of the building’s timeless sophistication,” added Gina Tomczak, associate managing director, Chicago Looney & Associates, the design firm on the project. “It’s only fitting that a Chicago hotel and especially JW Marriott Chicago assume these design inspirations, as George Pullman was once synonymous with luxury travel at the turn of the century.”

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
