The long-discussed joint venture between Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines has been (conditionally) approved. The world´s second largest cross-border air travel market will open new doors for traveling between the two nations but not without a few sacrifices from both sides. After the air-travel agreement between the United States and Mexico was approved in May, Delta and Aeromexico received the green light to move forward with their planned alliance. However, in order for the collaborative agreement to move forward, the U.S. carrier and the Mexican carrier will need to forfeit a select number of landing slots at Mexico City International Airport, a hub that has seen increasing congestion in recent years. As part of the joint venture, the two airlines also must coordinate schedules and set reasonable fares between the bordering nations. Competition with other major airlines as well as potential collaboration with smaller and discount airlines are additional focal points of the recent agreement.
