In order to prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, Japan is set to play host to several noteworthy contests through 2019.

The nation is hosting a wide variety of games before the actual Olympics to increase enthusiasm and awareness of other sports in Japan and on the global stage.

First up is the Nippon Baseball Series, which kicks off Oct. 27. Baseball is widely considered one of the most popular sports in Japan, according to the nation’s national tourism organization.

The Cycling Shimanami Bike Tour follows the baseball series on Oct. 28. This world-famous race collects more than 7,000 cyclists from all over the world to compete in Japan’s most famous cycling event.

Kicking off 2019, a national archery competition comes to Kyoto Jan. 13. The Ōmato National Archery Competition is held every year in Kyoto. The competition attracts roughly 2,000 competitors and hundreds of spectators.

Following the archery competition is a series of marathons throughout Japan, January until March. The Rugby World Cup comes to Japan between September and November 2019.
