As everyone is more and more connected, uninterrupted, unhurried reading can feel like a luxury; however, according to recent forecasting by the BBC, literary-inspired travel will continue to be a travel trend in 2026. InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort took notice of the trend and recently launched new Beach Reads programming.

As part of the initiative, a rotating Book of the Month will be selected and guests will be notified of the month’s featured title — ranging from contemporary novels and non-fiction to timeless classics. Guests can request a complimentary physical copy of the Book of the Month, personally delivered by the Island Curator.

The resort also transformed some of its serene, picturesque corners into dedicated Book Nooks, designed for quiet reflection and escapism. The three areas have been purposefully transformed with readers in mind, from shaded cabanas and a netted lounge area suspended within the pool at adults-only The Retreat to the overwater jetty swing. 

Beach Reads initiatives extend beyond physical spaces. The resort introduced a new question to its pre-arrival guest insight form, allowing visitors to share their preferred books, genres or newspapers ahead of arrival. These insights will lead to tailored reading selections delivered upon request by the Island Curator.

Guests are also encouraged to take home plant-able bookmarks, a biodegradable souvenir that can be planted directly in the ground to serve as a reminder that small moments of mindfulness create lasting impact.
