InterContinental Hotels Group confirmed the U.K. locations for upcoming Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and voco Hotels properties, as the brand absorbed several properties from Covivio, making IHG the leading luxury hotel operator in the country.
The new Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants properties are slated for London’s Bloomsbury neighborhood, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Bloomsbury property is currently operating as the Principal London, opened in 1898; the Manchester property is currently the Principal Manchester, set across three century-old buildings; the Edinburgh property is currently the Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square, built in 1791; and the Glasgow property is currently the Principal Blythswood Square Hotel, former home of the Royal Scottish Automobile Association.
The voco Hotels brand makes its debut in Cardiff, overtaking the current Principal St. David’s Hotel. The property overlooks the Cardiff Bay. Further voco locations are expected soon.
Meanwhile, IHG plans to rebrand the Principal Edinburgh George Street as an InterContinental property in late 2019 and the Principal Met Leeds Hotel as a Hotel Indigo property in 2020.

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
