Iberia Plus cardholders go hands free with Alexa, the Amazon Prime voice-response device. Iberia’s loyalty members can activate the new Iberia app on Alexa and their Iberia Plus profiles.

Using voice commands, Iberia Plus cardholders can check flight status and obtain boarding passes — all without clicking a single button. As with many airline app users, Iberia travelers will receive their boarding pass in an email in a variety of tech-compatible formats.

This new addition to Iberia’s existing Alexa app provides flight information as well as calculates the number of Avios required to fly a certain route.

Gabriel Perdiguero, chief transformation officer, Iberia, said, “With the new Iberia Plus skill for Alexa we are personalising our service and improving the travel experience of our most loyal customers, who can now ask Alexa to deliver their boarding passes only using their voice. It’s another step forward in our strategy of going wherever our customers are and offering a new channel for checking-in their flights.”

The new capability is part of the airline’s digital transformation program, including a completely new digital experience connecting all customers and employees. This new digital culture, including a virtual assistant on WhatsApp, is in an effort to push innovation for Iberia in finding and developing new business opportunities.

The new Alexa service is available for Spanish residents and follows a growing trend of competing airlines making an effort to connect passengers with a convenient, tech-savvy application.
