Just in time for its 50th birthday anniversary celebration in 2026, Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill has reopened with a brand-new look. Located 1,287 steps from the U.S. Capitol Building (yes, someone counted), everything from the lobby and lounges to guestrooms, suites and meeting spaces have been redesigned and renewed.
“We are thrilled to announce the completion of our nine-month transformation to provide international and domestic travelers and local residents with new, more refined accommodations, enhanced culinary experiences, and modernized conference and event spaces for meetings and groups,” said Randy Thompson, general manager, Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. “In celebration of our 50th year, the renovation reinforces the hotel’s legacy as the premier hotel and event center in the heart of Capitol Hill. The new modern style of the hotel also honors the artisanal vision and innovative design of the craftsman who originally planned and built the U.S. Capitol and the surrounding neighborhoods.”
The experience begins with the sunken lobby and reception area, where a grand atrium includes work areas inspired by the blacksmith forging integral to the Capitol building’s design. The 840 guestrooms and suites deliver with a sophisticated, refined décor that includes warm wood tones, black metal accents, state-of-the-art technologies, spacious closets, and luxurious beds and bathrooms. Design touches, such as modern takes on antique lamps, and the metal rivet detailing on headboards and sconces, reflect the iron work part of the Capitol dome’s design.
The hotel’s restaurant, Article One – American Grill, was also part of the renovations. Mid-Atlantic cuisine is the focus, with dishes including seared local striped bass and Maryland crab cake sandwiches. There are also cheeky takes on the hotel’s location, such as Senate Bean Soup, State Tacos and Capital Charcuterie. Guests can choose from craft cocktails, local beers and tailored whiskeys to enhance their dining experience. Private dining is also available for those interested in booking a working lunch or dinner.
Hyatt Globalists and those staying in Club Lounge rooms can also enjoy the new Regency Club, where natural wood and textured wall coverings create a warm and inviting space for relaxing, light bites and beverages. Guests can keep up with fitness goals in the newly transformed fitness center and indoor pool. The property also offers the largest ballroom on Capitol Hill, as well as more than 38,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.
