The stunning, six-story Hôtel de Sers retains the beauty and “bones” of its 19th-century Haussmannian architecture, with wrought-iron balconies, high ceilings, herringbone parquet floors and intricately crafted wood paneling. The former private villa was owned by its namesake, the Marquis de Sers, and transformed into a small hotel around 1935 alongside other posh townhouses in the neighborhood.
That quartier, within the affluent 8th arrondissement in Paris, is within the city’s prestigious Triangle d’Or, bordering the Champs-Élysées, Avenue Montaigne with its Gallerie Dior museum and renowned avenue George V with its celebrated boutiques. The hotel’s location assures safety; it’s also within easy walking distance to iconic monuments, including Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower.
Owners Anne and Agathe Jousse recently completed a renovation of this 5-star property. The redo aimed to embrace a fresh, more contemporary vision of hospitality while preserving, restoring and reconnecting with the soul of the original. “It was never about reinventing everything, but about faithfully extending the story,” said the Jousses.

Interior architect Pascal Allaman reinterpreted the décor of its 43 rooms and nine suites. In the accommodations, Allaman designed geometric rugs over the light oak parquet flooring, along with made-to-measure, softly curved furnishings and appealing textiles by Dedar, Nobilis and Bisson Bruneel.
Exquisite, stylized — and occasionally exotic — fabrics juxtapose with the serene, contemporary ambiance; velvet or linen curtains and brass accessories augment the textural warmth. Nearly half of the rooms open out to a terrace, and some, including one of three sixth-floor signature suites, view the Eiffel Tower. (My junior suite had a verdant interior view overlooking more park-like greenery than I would have imagined, plus a multistoried deck garden in the building next door.)

Among the talented artisans who contributed to the renovation, Géraldine Prieur designed extraordinary carpets for ground-floor social spaces. One long, abstract carpet extends down the open corridor in the welcome area; bold graphic rugs add sophistication to S Bar; and a hand-tufted velvet carpet enhances the restaurant, which showcases a contemporary abstract painting by artist Diana Barrault. Throughout the process, the team kept a keen eye toward sustainability, exemplified by Michel Denis who restored the camel leather armchairs.
Public spaces display a color scheme ranging from bronze and copper in the lobby; yellow and orange at the bar; and blues in the restaurant and Library Lounge, where the backlit wall and comfy sofas are reminiscent of a chic Parisian apartment familial.

Adjacent to the indoor lounges, The Patio, a more casual eatery within a lush courtyard, is a tropical, plant-filled space where guests partake in an Aperitivo menu amidst wrought-iron furnishings under suspended woven rattan lamps topped by a modular glass roof. Italian born Chef Stefano Stafie leads the kitchen brigade, which also prepares room service deliveries.
The size of Hôtel de Sers offers intimacy and a friendly ambiance that starts from the top, with general manager Rafael Da Costa; the Clef d’Or Concierge extends knowledgeable service which continues throughout the staff to the wellness area with its fully equipped gym, sauna and a treatment room, and to the valets at the front door.
