A historic U.K., hotel, The Grand Hotel Birmingham is expected to open this summer after extensive renovations. One of the city’s most iconic buildings, The Grand Hotel Birmingham was originally constructed in the 1870s.

When it reopens, The Grand Hotel Birmingham will offer 185 guestrooms and suites, retaining a mix of the building’s original French Renaissance, Victorian and Art Deco stylings. The building’s stone facade, ceilings, mosaic tiled floors and grand staircase have all been lovingly restored. New penthouse suites show views of St. Phillip’s Cathedral and the city, while a rooftop garden terrace welcomes visitors and locals alike, as do the two new bars and restaurant.

The hotel boasts a past hosting some of the world’s greatest names in politics and entertainment, including King George VI, Malcolm X, Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill and James Cagney.

“We’re proud to be working with Hortons’ Estate, whose founder, Isaac Horton, originally built the hotel in the 1870s, on a shared vision to create one of the most prestigious hotels in the United Kingdom. The restoration of this stunning grande dame building is another milestone in what is an exciting period of transformation for this vibrant city. We look forward to providing visitors to Birmingham and locals alike with a truly one-of-a-kind destination that celebrates the splendor of this landmark building but with a 21st-century luxury experience,” said Cody Bradshaw, managing director, head of international hotels, Starwood Capital Group, the private investment firm overseeing the property.

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
