Perched on Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast, the historic Ballygally Castle reveals a new design and look in time for fall. The 17th-century castle overlooks the Irish Sea and invites guests to experience its all-new guestrooms and suites.

The hotel boasts 54 tastefully decorated bedrooms, some still retaining original beamed ceilings. Other guestrooms and suites feature views of the sea and mountains, while the Garden wing transports guests to a different era through original period rooms uniquely shaped by the castle’s architecture.
Ballygally Castle also offers several on-site dining experiences including afternoon tea, The Lounge and The Garden Restaurant. The restaurant serves contemporary and classic Irish dishes like slow-cooked Irish beef and oven-baked sea trout, all accompanied by garden views. At The Lounge, guests can sip on a cocktail or beer or enjoy afternoon tea service decked out with finger sandwiches, cakes, pastries and tea.

To celebrate its redesign, Ballygally Castle launched an offer highlighting the best of the property. The Sea Dips & Hot Sips offer encourages guests to take a refreshing swim in the sea before returning to the hotel to indulge in luxury amenities and experiences. This offer includes overnight accommodations; a full Irish breakfast; complimentary car parking; complimentary WiFi; and a loan of dry robes, hot water bottles and Thermos flasks filled with tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
Ballygally Castle makes a great hub for travelers venturing along the Causeway Coast. The hotel sits just more than a one-hour drive from Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge.

Game of Thrones fans will also enjoy the hotel thanks to its link to season six of the show. A door at Ballygally Castle is reminiscent of the “Battle of the Bastards” episode with symbols of both House Stark and House Bolton (swords, shields and sigils of the wolf) adorning the door. Visitors can view this door and others in Northern Ireland featured in the hit series through the Journey of Doors tour.

Sep 23, 2023When the Sun Goes Down, the Party Begins on Mykonos
There is something magical about sipping a glass of local wine while watching the sun slip into the Aegean Sea as the afterglow tinges traditional, white-washed Cycladic houses with glorious shades of rose, purple and gold. Ancient Greeks believed Helios, the Sun God, caused sunsets by driving his fiery chariot into the sea. Standing at water’s edge in Mykonos, watching the sky slowly turn from purple to inky black, you almost believe it.

Sep 22, 2023Cruise Alaska for Awe-Inspiring Adventures to Delight All Ages
I hadn’t even made it to my first cup of coffee when I got an early phone call from my sister, who lives two time zones away. “OMG, Kristy, Patsy Cline came on twice while I was driving the kids to school today,” she laughed. “You know what that means, right?” We both gasped and then instantly began singing the lyrics to “La Bamba,” an inside joke we’d shared since our family’s Alaskan cruise decades ago when we, unintentionally, won the ship’s karaoke contest among a sea of Patsy Cline tributes.

Sep 20, 2023The Lancaster Hotel Review
Located in the heart of Houston’s Theatre District, the recently renovated Lancaster Hotel originally opened in 1926. The classic interior with an abundance of natural light floods the two-story lobby. A shimmering chandelier and elegant marble floors juxtapose nicely with the contemporary art displayed on the salon staircase wall.

Sep 15, 2023Beyond the Beach: See Hawai’i’s Diverse Verdant and Volcanic Landscapes on an Island-Hopping Cruise
Midway Atoll is the end of the Hawai‘ian Islands, literally. This is the ultimate fate of these low, sandy islets ringing a lagoon: Eventually these last remnants of a once large volcanic island will sink beneath the waves, completing a story that began 1,500 miles away. Midway, though not easy to get to, occasionally features in cruise itineraries. Holland America Line’s Westerdam offers a rare chance to glimpse the remotest of all the Hawai‘ian Islands with a scheduled stop in October 2024. You can still see the relics of the famous World War II battle here as well as a million nesting albatrosses and other seabirds.
