One of Hilton’s properties in Malaysia leads the region’s sustainability charge by partnering with local organizations to reduce waste in hotels.

DoubleTree by Hilton, Johor Bahru works toward Hilton’s overall sustainability goals, particularly its Travel with Purpose initiative. On a property level, DoubleTree by Hilton, Joho Bahru has a goal to halve its carbon footprint and double social impact investments by 2030, and works toward the Travel with Purpose mission by partnering with Kechara Soup Kitchen and Diversey for the Linens for Life program.

The program launched in honor of Housekeeping Week and is expected to go a long way in improving the way the hotel does business in terms of environmental and community impacts. DoubleTree by Hilton, Johor Bahru is the first property in Malaysia to introduce the program and its three specific goals: to reduce waste, to help make a difference in disaster relief efforts and to provide work to the local community through recycling.

Typically, a 400-room hotel generates two–three tonnes of used linens annually. Under the new program, the hotel’s housekeeping will collect used linens to channel them to non-government organizations for proper recycling. Locally, the program will assist disadvantaged women build sustainable livelihoods.
