Visit the Curonian Spit peninsula, flanked by the Baltic Sea. The landscape includes a wildlife and marine sanctuary, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and desert-like stretches of sand dunes frequently used in film shoots. The peninsula is also home to a string of colorful fishing villages connected by a cycling path with the Juodkrante sculpture garden located along the way.

Drop in the Sea Museum in Klaipeda to peruse a collection of exhibitions that trace the country’s maritime history. Klaipeda also has a resident colony of penguins and an expansive aquarium with an underwater tunnel. Each year, the seaport town hosts the summer Sea Festival with food, music, dance and family events.

Wander among the modernist Art Deco architecture in Kaunas, the country’s second-largest city. Dubbed a UNESCO Design City in the Creative Cities Network, Kaunas will be the European Capital of Culture in 2022. Sites include the tower located at Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul of Kaunas, one of the largest churches in all of Lithuania. Climb to the top and enjoy an aerial view of the city.
