This spring, the world’s largest Rioja wine cellar opens at Hotel Palacio de Los Ángeles, a restored 17th-century palace in the center of Haro, Spain. The Baroque hotel, slated to debut April 1, makes gastronomy and wine the center of its experiences.
At the heart of the experience is an enogastronomic concept led by Michelin-starred brothers Ignacio and Carlos Echapresto, the acclaimed chefs behind Venta Moncalvillo, which boasts two Michelin stars and one Michelin green star. Utilizing ingredients from the Echaprestos’ own biodynamic garden, dishes and menus are thoughtfully curated and accompanied by an exceptional wine program celebrating La Rioja’s renowned vineyards. The wine program is further elevated by the record-breaking wine cellar.
Beneath the walls of the old palace will be a unique underground space carved from stone and dedicated to wine. El Calado channels the soul of La Rioja, blending history and winemaking culture together for private tastings, presentations, exclusive dinners and small corporate events.
The hotel’s wine bar terrace offers another spot to enjoy local wines, cocktails and seasonal dishes, surrounded by the building’s centuries-old stone.
Accommodations range from king-sized guestrooms to junior suites to two-bedroom residences, all with espresso coffeemakers, bathrobes and slippers, and high-speed WiFi. An on-site spa offers treatments and massages combining traditional techniques with nature-inspired rituals and aromas. The space will also be home to a hydrotherapy area with a dry sauna, steam room, indoor Jacuzzi and sensory showers.
Hotel Palacio de Los Ángeles is about one hour south of Bilbao and about 1.5 hours from San Sebastián. The new hotel is part of Majestic Hotel Group, which operates hotels in Barcelona, Mallorca, Seville and San Sebastián.

Please enjoy the Wave Issue, our cruising special for the first half of 2026. Cruising is booming, and travelers cannot get enough of it. I just returned from a fantastic trip on Regent Seven Seas Mariner with a group of Globility Board members and other Global Traveler subscribers. We departed from İstanbul and made our way through the Dardanelles Strait, connecting the Sea of Marmara to the Aegean. From there we entered the Mediterranean. The ship made interesting stops in Greece, Montenegro and Croatia before docking in Trieste. Please read my GT Tested review of Seven Seas Mariner in this issue.
