Cloudcroft, New Mexico, plays host to Art & Wine in the Cool Pines, Aug. 3–4, a two-day festival showcasing the state’s wine and art offerings. Located in Southern New Mexico, Cloudcroft is located at an elevation of 8,600 feet — making for cool summers and great hiking temperatures. The outdoor festival makes the most of its forested setting with live music, wine tastings from New Mexico vineyards and plenty of food.

Tickets for non-drinkers and visitors under the age of 21 are $10 per person, while general admission, $15, includes a commemorative, custom event wine glass.

Festival attendees can linger after the festival or arrive early to explore the history of the Mescalero Apache Native Americans at the Sacramento Mountains Museum & Pioneer Village or of the settlers who built what was regarded as the “impossible railroad.” At Pioneer Village, visitors can see what life was like for settlers who lived in log cabins through the living history exhibitions, and tour the historic chapel, originally constructed in 1899 by the El Paso and Northeastern Railroad as an office building. Active travelers can set off into the surrounding landscape to hike, camp or mountain bike along the forest trails.
