Following President Trump’s electronics travel ban on flights from select airports to the United States, Emirates announced it will allow passengers to work and play on their digital devices up until boarding.

The airline announced passengers travelling to the United States via Dubai can use their laptops and tablets on the first part of their journeys and during transit in Dubai.

Passengers will be required to declare their electronic devices to security staff at the gate just before boarding a flight to the United States. The devices will then be packed into boxes, loaded in the aircraft hold and returned to customers upon arrival in the United States. There is no charge for this service, but there will be detailed searches of hand luggage, so customers are encouraged to declare all electronic items before boarding.

“Our aim is to ensure compliance with the new rules, while minimizing disruption to passenger flow and impact on customer experience,” said Tim Clark, CEO, Emirates. “Our new complimentary service enables passengers, particularly those flying for business, to have the flexibility to use their devices until the last possible moment.”

Passengers on U.S.-bound flights who are beginning their journeys in Dubai are encouraged to stow devices in their checked luggage.
