Dubai International Airport Retains Top Spot as Busiest Airport

Dubai International Airport is once again recognized as the busiest airport in the world in terms of international passenger volume in 2018.

This is the fifth straight year Dubai International retained its title as the busiest international airport in the world and surpassed 89.1 million passengers. In addition to the huge number of passengers, the airport reduced average wait times and expanded food and drink offerings.

In 2018, Dubai welcomed 89.15 million passengers, representing a 1 per cent increase over 2017. August was the airport’s busiest month ever, with 8.4 million passengers traveling through the airport. India was the airport’s biggest destination, with 12.27 million passengers using the airport. Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom were also major destinations for Dubai International in 2018.

The total number of flight movements saw a slight decrease to 408,251, but the number of passengers on each flight grew slightly, to 226. Waiting times were drastically reduced by 28 per cent, while 74.9 million bags passed through the airport in 2018.

In terms of total passengers served in 2018, Dubai International ranks No. 3. Seventy-five carriers connect passengers to 220 airports in 214 cities across 94 countries, according to Dubai International Airport.
