Incorporating 125,000 pounds of ivy; 5,000 square feet of sculpted boxwood topiaries; and 22,000 potted plants, shrubbery and trees, the new Glam Menagerie: A Surrealist Summer has been unveiled at Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens in Las Vegas, and can be enjoyed through Sept. 6.
It’s a show: The Bellagio Horticulture team joined forces with designer Ed Libby to create a lavish, magnificent realm filled with elaborate topiaries, trompe-l’oeil illusions and fantastical creatures decked out in outfits inspired by the French Renaissance.

“Designing the summer display was more than just creating a beautiful garden — it was about transporting guests into an extraordinary realm where nature and opulence intertwine, surreal art comes to life and elegance blooms with every step,” said Libby. “Each element was chosen to challenge perception and celebrate luxury, imagination and the beauty of summertime.”
In the West Bed, life-sized mossy figures face off in an imaginary duel, while chandeliers cast a glow over a collection of rose-hued botanicals. At the Garden Table, guests can enjoy brunch from Sadelle’s, or dinner from MICHAEL MINA Bellagio while in the company of enormous chess pieces crafted from greenery.

A pair of topiary giraffes, cherub fountains and the scent of jasmine are features in the North Bed, while baroque chandeliers, lounging zebras and imaginative boxwood creations can be found in the South Bed. In the East Bed, a central gazebo and wrought iron dome supported by pedestal columns are surrounded by pink and white blooms, and a flock of flamingos enjoy the waters around the gazebo.
Sustainability is key, and water used within the conservatory and gardens is supplied by underground wells that collect rain and recycled water. Blooms that have died are collected and taken to an area composting center, reducing landfill waste and contributing to the health of soil, water and air in the region.

The city endured years of segregation during apartheid, including uprisings. Today the city continues to rebound in a post-apartheid era, with many major companies headquartered in the city center, popular beaches teeming with visitors in warmer months, engaging museums and aquariums, and a thriving tourist industry promoting the city’s culture and natural beauty.

Blending with its Montrose neighborhood like the indigenous and cultivated plants hugging the property’s walkways, the newly built Hotel Saint Augustine opened mid-January 2025. The first Bunkhouse hotel in Houston, Texas, is easily mistaken for garden apartments. Seventy-one guest rooms and suites encompass a tree-lined block. The hotel’s buildings are only two stories tall and also house a lobby, lounge, restaurant and event space. Tucked into a corner of the grounds sits a circular outdoor pool.

Jul 16, 2025Global City Guidebook: Phoenix
Arizona’s capital and most populous city basks beneath the sun year-round, boasting Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, major sports teams, luxury spas and lively nightclubs. The city lies within the Salt River Valley along the northern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, making for dramatic mountain views and vast desert landscapes beyond. The city itself comprises 15 urban villages, many tracing roots to historical communities. Despite brutally hot summers, various experiences and sites in and around the city combat the heat, such as tubing and kayaking on the Salt River, swimming in any of the city’s six lakes, taking a moonlight hike, or floating in one of a number of the city’s upscale hotel pools.
