Members of Delta Air Lines’ SkyMiles rewards program enjoy a plethora of benefits, from free checked bags and seat selection to lounge access, but members who sign up for the new SkyMiles Select program will be privy to even more perks.
For $59 per month, SkyMiles Select members will automatically be part of boarding group 1, which will give them early access to overhead bin space. However, first dibs still go to the groups boarding before group 1, including active military duty members, business-class passengers, first-class passengers and high-ranking frequent flyers.
In a world where more airlines charge for checked bags and more travelers carry on, the fight for overhead bin space has become an issue.
This new subscription service from Delta is not too different from essentially charging passengers in order to secure a space for their bag on the plane. Now instead of battling other passengers for bin space, travelers with Delta can simply pay an extra annual fee for peace of mind.
