Skillcations are taking over the travel industry, allowing travelers to take home something other than the traditional souvenir … like a new skill.
The new trend includes travelers looking for trips focused on unique, personal experiences and connections. IHG Hotels & Resorts and Talker Research recently conducted a report, surveying 1,000 Americans about the trend and found 47 percent are interested in taking a skillcation. The study also found 68 percent of those surveyed think the experience could be life changing. Sixty-eight percent of participants want a full digital detox during a skillcation, while 27 percent report an openness to new experiences. More than a quarter of surveyors note they gain confidence after a skillcation, with 26 percent saying travel feels more meaningful when learning a new skill.

Oct 7, 2026Review: Prestige Oceanfront Resort
Vancouver Island gets progressively wilder as you leave Victoria behind and follow the coastline west. By the time you reach Sooke, about 45 minutes from the provincial capital, city blocks have surrendered to forests, rocky shoreline, sheltered coves and long views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Prestige Oceanfront Resort rises directly above Sooke Harbour, where boats move across the basin, and the Olympic Mountains form the horizon beyond the strait.
