Cabletv.com recently announced the results of its in-house study to rank the top 10 major airlines’ in-flight entertainment capabilities.
In order to rank the 10 airlines, the website took a survey of all of the options available on different airlines. The study considered personal seatback screens, personal device access, and variety and pricing of different types of media. After the total contents were surveyed, the survey-takers measured extra cost against availability and WiFi availability.
The No. 1 ranked airline is Alaska Airlines. The airline features a free-to-access entertainment trove with more than 200 movies and television shows.
In second place, Southwest Airlines offers access to an entertainment library through personal devices. If you are watching Southwest-sanctioned material, you do not need to pay anything. WiFi will cost extra, though.
Ranking third, and the last individually ranked airline, Delta Air Lines offers more than 300 movies, as well as content from premium cable networks. Some aircraft also include live satellite television. Delta’s ranking takes a hit because of the lack of seatback entertainment on all aircraft and the inability to rent a tablet.
JetBlue, American Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and United Airlines occupy the fourth spot in a tie. Allegiant, Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines come in at five with zero onboard entertainment options. According to the study, the airlines cite cost-effectiveness and savings for passengers as the reason for the exclusion.
