British Airways looks to help passengers making connections at Heathrow. The improvements involve new technology, dedicated staff and new vehicles.

The company said a large portion of its 123,000 daily passengers transfer to other flights. It will start identifying flights with large numbers of connecting passengers and move those planes to the most convenient places for connecting purposes. The airline will aid connections by arranging for a vehicle transfer for passengers to their next flight.

The airline has dedicated connections managers who monitor arrivals and organize customers for tight connections and give them Express Connect status, plus information to fast track them through security checkpoints.

Customers likely to miss connections are rebooked with British Airways or oneworld partners while they’re still in the air. This information is then relayed to cabin crew who can help passengers with the next steps. They’re also met upon landing by connections staff who gives them new boarding passes, meal vouchers and overnight stays, if necessary.

“We know how important it is for our customers to transfer through the airport quickly and smoothly, and all of these additional initiatives show them we’ll always go the extra mile to provide excellent customer service,” said Tom Stevens, head of customer at Heathrow, British Airways.
