British Airways recently announced it will reduce meal service on flights less than 8.5 hours, and the airline will no longer provide economy-class passengers with two meals on these flights. The same changes apply to passengers flying in premium economy on flights lasting fewer than seven hours. The changes will apply on the airline’s popular London/New York route, which takes approximately eight hours. Passengers will still receive one meal and a snack later in the flight, and alcohol will be served to all passengers of age regardless of seat selection. The airline instituted the meal service changes in July after media reports they were beginning to charge for food. Passengers were recently quoted in The Standard complaining they were offered only one meal and then a chocolate bar as a snack on these flights. “It was a joke. I paid £500 for a World Traveller Plus seat and the breakfast was OK but to then get just a fun size chocolate bar six hours later is outrageous,” one passenger said. British Airways isn’t cutting all perks; the airline announced earlier in the year it would be adding what it claims will be the fastest WiFi in the air.
