Welcome to our first issue of 2025 … and Happy New Year! While there’s much to address in this letter, as I write to you, Los Angeles, a city near and dear to Global Traveler, is experiencing unprecedented wildfires and facing unimaginable loss. There are no words appropriate for a situation of this magnitude, and I can only hope by the time you read this letter the destruction and devastation has been contained and communities are well on their way to rebuilding. Community is more important than ever, and we join with the world in sending thoughts to everyone and every business affected by this terrible tragedy. Our team was in Los Angeles just one month ago celebrating our GT Tested Reader Survey awards. From our community to yours, we are with you.
Consider donating whatever you can to reputable organizations such as the American Red Cross, California Fire Foundation, Los Angeles Wildfire Emergency Funding and others. Los Angeles will, no doubt, emerge stronger.

Our first issue of the year marks our first-ever Wave Issue. For those not familiar with the term “wave season,” it refers to the time period after the winter holidays and through March when cruise lines offer some of the best incentives and promotions for booking. It’s a “tidal wave” of offers. We’re always eager to celebrate the wonderful world of cruising, and as such, we bring you our Wave Issue, which, in conjunction with September’s Cruising Issue, affords us the opportunity to bring you incredible cruise content from cover to cover twice a year.

It’s also our birthday! This month Global Traveler turns 21, and we’re so thankful to celebrate with you. In the last 21 years, the travel industry has faced massive challenges, and we’ve been right there for the good and the bad. Each time, the industry rebounds in a bigger way — a testament to the enduring, powerful and transformative nature of travel. It is our honor to be a part of it all and to travel through the world with our loyal readers every month.

And where are we sailing this month? The list includes Bermuda; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Vancouver, British Columbia; Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Cyprus; Holbox, Mexico; San Diego, California; Side, Türkiye; the French Riviera; and the Panama Canal.

Though our hearts are heavy for California, we look forward to another year of jet setting around the world, including to Los Angeles. We love you, L.A.
