As an avid reader of sports autobiographies, I was immediately interested when I heard former Major League Baseball catcher Danny Sheaffer wrote one. When I heard Sheaffer discuss his love of travel in his promotional interviews, I wanted to learn more.
Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1981, Sheaffer made his MLB debut in 1987. Sheaffer went on to play seven seasons with four teams. Keep Digging: Discovering the Greatest Story Ever Told, Through the Greatest Game Ever Played is Sheaffer’s story of his journey in life, sports and faith.

It’s easy to sum up an athlete’s career by analyzing his statistics, but Sheaffer’s career goes beyond stats. A catcher by trade, Sheaffer learned other positions to prolong his career. Eventually, he played seven positions. In his book and our interview, Sheaffer compared his playing career with his path in life.
Playing in both leagues enabled Sheaffer to play in every stadium. He named his favorite ballparks as well as cities. A true traveler, Sheaffer researched each city to have a plan upon arrival. Now retired, Sheaffer enjoys travel even more, as he and his wife control their itinerary. Unlike a lot of retired athletes who are relieved to travel less, Sheaffer gets more out of travel.
