It’s been a whirlwind two weeks of travel, taking me from Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia to Casablanca, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Los Angeles. Phew! Needless to say, I have several stories to share with you over the next few weeks, but today’s blog is all about a 7-star experience.
In Dubai, Banu Yilmaz and I had two occasions to visit the world’s first 7-star hotel, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. Our first visit was for lunch at the recently reopened and redesigned Al Mahara, now helmed by English, Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw. Aside from the showpiece aquarium in the center of the restaurant, the other stars of the afternoon played out on our plates as we happily indulged in the chef’s six-course tasting menu. My favorites were the lobster risotto, with its subtle hints of mandarin orange, and the sticky toffee pudding finish — both of which are Outlaw signatures.
It was an equally special experience, as I’d just put the finishing touches on our November “Chefs” column, focused on Al Mahara and Chef Nathan Outlaw. Pick up a copy of our November issue for more.
Two days later, we returned to enjoy outdoor time on the recently opened Terrace, a picturesque area with water-side seating, a bar and restaurant. It was a perfect spot for a late afternoon glass of wine and a tasting of the popular ceviche.
Following our short afternoon break, we had the chance to check out one of the hotel’s Royal two-bedroom suites. The word opulent seems a rather fitting description. Check out the photos below.
On your next visit to Dubai, what better way to experience the city than with a visit to the glam, over-the-top, iconic Burj Al Arab Jumeirah? After all, Dubai is all about luxury.
