I decided to combine my two trips (a day apart) into one. So, I flew from LAX to PHL to SAV…..oh, and I took the red-eye! My flight was uneventful from LAX, on time when earlier that day a computer glitch was stranding passengers. By 10:30 p.m., flights were nearly running on time and fortunately, I was about to sleep four hours on my undr-five-hour flight from LAX to PHL. The connection at PHL was seamless, except for some reason USAirways was unable to transport my golf bag from LAX to SAV, so I had to pick up the bag and recheck it at PHL…what century is this?? The key to the red-eye trip was getting to Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Club and Spa and playing golf at their 18-hole course dedicated to Slamming Sammy Snead. I teed off at 1 p.m. just as the Junior. International 4-Ball Tournament ended in a two-team playoff (they were 11 under when I teed off). After golf, I stopped by their spa, the Greenbrier Spa, for the 19th-hole treatment. This consisted of a Swiss Shower & Scotch Spray treatment and a 25-minute massage on my golf muscles. The Swiss Shower & Scotch Spray treatment is worth a try and I recommend it for any middle-aged man. It is comprised of standing naked in a multi-head shower (at least 16 heads) and as the warm water covers you, a 30-something spa therapist shoots jets of water at your back, gluteus maximus and legs to help relieve stress. She told me I could turn around and face front, but the idea of near-firehose shots of water hitting me where I never get hit kept me in the protective position. I recommend it for all; It was an invigorating experience! The resort and spa/golf course are wonderful experiences and the Savannah Convention Center is right next door! -Fran Gallagher, Publisher and CEO
