Sunny Sunday

The weather this weekend was beautiful, so my husband and I decided to take advantage of the sun with a walk around the nearby Cooper River.

The Skytanic Is Coming!

Colorado-based energy company Radia revealed plans for the world’s largest airplane. Measuring 356 feet long and 79 feet tall, with a wingspan of 261 feet and a load capacity of 80 tons, cargo plane WindRunner will only require a runway as short as 6,000 feet. Nicknamed Skytanic, WindRunner is expected to be in operation in 2027.

I recently joined my Global Traveler colleagues in New York for GT's annual Wines on the Wing event. In addition to a successful event, I enjoyed a lot of wonderful food.

Decades of New York

It had been 10 years since I’d been to New York on business and 20 years since I’d been there for pleasure. And, dare I say, more than 30 years since my first visit to the Big Apple.

An Afternoon and Evening in San Juan, Puerto Rico

One of the excursions on my recent Holland America Line cruise was to San Juan, Puerto Rico, a place I (as a Floridian) have heard so much about and yet never had the chance to visit until now. The boat pulling up past Castillo San Felipe del Morro reminded me of Castillo de San Marco in St. Augustine, Florida.

Time to Play Ball!

Meteorologically, spring began this year on March 19, but there are so many other signals people use to mark the start of the season. It may be the blooming of the first daffodil or cherry blossoms, the croaking of frogs or the call of red-winged blackbirds in a nearby pond. It might be the start of Major League Baseball's spring training, NCAA's March Madness or golf's Masters Tournament at Augusta (if so, happy spring!). In my older daughter's household, though, spring hasn't truly sprung until Opening Day of Little League play.

LA’s Historic Gems

Sometimes you find yourself in traffic, and the best way to work around it is to stop somewhere nearby and have an adventure. A few weeks ago I was in downtown LA at peak traffic, 5 mph top speed, bumper to bumper. I am a visual person; I love looking at maps. It gives me some sort of assurance to know where I am in relation to points of interest based on where I’m going. I just so happened to find myself just a few miles away from a little gem in Boyle Heights.

Magnificent Orlando, Florida

The excitement grew as we flew ever closer to Orlando where my husband, Tony, and I planned a glorious week in the sunshine away from any kind of adulting back home. No, this week we were 9 years old again, full of energy and wonderment, ready to experience all that time allowed.

Flying with Condor: Germany Part 1

On a recent trip to Germany, I flew Condor Airlines' business class out of New York’s JFK. After a smooth check-in and a quick TSA line, I headed to the T7 Lounge to relax before my flight. In the lounge I helped myself to some snacks and a Coke while I got some work done. Around the time of boarding, I headed down to my gate and was able to board as soon as I got there.

Mindfulness City in Kingdom of Bhutan Unveiled as Future Economic Hub

In front of an audience of 30,000 Kingdom of Bhutan residents and officials, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck presented his vision for a new economic hub in Bhutan. Located between India to the south and China to the north, Bhutan is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Bhutan came late to global tourism. It opened its borders to international visitors in 1974 and, while tourism definitely increased, residents are enduring “light” rush-hour traffic in Thimphu, its capital city, as the only Asian capital without traffic lights.

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
