Two weeks ago I visited the Middle East for the first time. I arrived late in the evening at the Dubai International Airport (DXB) and traveled by taxi to the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort. The ride gave me my first glimpse of some of the audacious architecture of the UAE and the scaffolding surrounding what is yet to come.
As soon as our headlights caught the glimmering Sheraton logo, I breathed a sigh of relief. Even at the late hour I arrived, the Sheraton team was in place to greet me warmly and make sure that I had everything I needed to settle into my new home.
Built in 1979, the Sheraton has watched the city grow around it while standing proudly as a landmark in its architecture and ideal location. Though it is always easy to be attracted to the latest and greatest, I found the Sheraton to be one of the best hotels for business travel where I have stayed. The layout subtly separates the leisure facilities (pool, spa, beach) from the core of the hotel: easily accessed if you have some down time, but isn’t a distraction as you go about your business. More prominently you will find an excellent array of restaurants which feature cuisine from all over the globe. Elegant design and décor that is unique to the region, rather than modern/contemporary yet nondescript. And impeccable service fom a staff who feel like family by the end of your stay.
I understand there are a number of construction projects underway in the city which will only enhance the Sheraton’s prime position in Abu Dhabi, and renovations within the hotel will further improve visitors’ experiences. In a region, and perhaps world, that buzzes with the excitement of new, it is well worth your time to see why the Sheraton Abu Dhabi continues to thrive.
