My holiday weekend started with dinner and music outside at the Village Inn on Friday night. Johnnie Miller, whose “Sun on Our Face” has been getting major radio airtime, delighted diners with covers and original songs. We enjoyed his mellow sounds while we devoured a spinach pizza. A weekly event, Friday Nights on the Patio is again on my calendar for this week.

The pandemic caused the cancellation of the local fireworks show on July 4th, but we figured plenty of area folks would have their own displays. As the evening arrived, we took a pitcher of frozen margaritas and a platter of chicken nachos to my balcony and waited for the fireworks to start. Soon, the skies in all directions were filled with colorful sparkles.

Sunday morning before the temperatures rose, I ran six miles, burning off a few of the previous night’s calories. I’m still trying to match my pre-surgery distances, but I am getting there.

The pandemic forces adjustments, but there is still plenty of fun to be had. This was a perfectly enjoyable, relaxing weekend for me.
