The team at Global Traveler just completed our 2012 editorial calendar. The process was quite simple and very democratic! Everyone at the company submitted destinations that they thought Global Traveler should cover during the year. These were compiled and then placed on GT‘s conference room world map. From here, we could see that we were missing some important areas of the world. For example, Russia and part of Eastern Europe were obviously not covered (see map). Once we had our destinations, we then had to slim down the list to a manageable monthly calendar. These destinations have to fit into the articles that we are producing. We are changing the regular destinations articles this year in our continual effort to update the magazine and keep GT fresh. Here are the new article line-ups for 2012: ADVENTURE ADD-ON (debuted in 2006) Quick adventure trips to combine with business for the busy executive AFTER FIVE (new for 2012) After Five is an easy-to-read guide to what’s hot — and what’s not DAY OFF (debuted in 2004) Day Off is a guide for exploring a city in one day DESTINATION ONE (debuted in 2004) A comprehensive study of a major international city FAMILY BUSINESS (debuted in 2006) A destination from the perspective of a business traveler accompanied by family, friends and/or significant others KICKING BACK (debuted in 2004) Articles focus on leisure activities and destinations of interest to our well-traveled demographic NINE-TO-FIVE (new for 2012) The nuts and bolts of the featured destination The final and agreed upon calendar is a discussion between myself and Editor in Chief, Lisa Matte. Unlike other magazines in this niche, we have true corporate history and consistency. It makes these selections easy and puts GT ahead of the curve.
