Belmond’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train is beloved for its Old World Art Deco design and classic European rail routes. For the first time in three years, the company is adding a new destination: Berlin. The inaugural trip will begin June 2, with the company’s first annual two-day overnight itineraries connecting London and Berlin via Paris. The luxury trains are beautifully restored and well appointed with vintage touches across sleeper, dining and bar cars. Just under 200 guests can fill the train and relive the golden age of rail travel. “It felt like a natural progression for the train to broaden its horizons,” Gary Franklin, managing director of trains and cruises, Belmond, told Conde Nast Traveler. “With a shared Art Deco history and nostalgia for days gone by, pairing the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and Berlin seemed to be an easy fit. Stepping on to the train’s 1920s carriages is akin to traveling back in time, while Berlin itself stands as a living monument to the flourishing arts and culture scene that emerged in the city post-war.” The trains will also include German-inspired cocktails and a live German band playing in the bar car.
