The Ascott and Indonesian developer Ciputra entered into an agreement making The Ascott one of the largest lodging owner-operators in Indonesia.

Following the formation of an alliance between Ciputra and The Ascott, The Ascott will manage and operate properties developed by Ciputra in Indonesia and China for five years. The first property to open under the alliance is the 253-room Citadines Sudirman Jakarta, set to open in 2021.

The alliance between the property manager and property developer is the culmination of a long relationship, beginning with a 1996 partnership resulting in the Somerset Grand Citra Jakarta.

“Forming strategic cooperation with leading industry players continues to be a key growth strategy for Ascott, as it provides us with accelerated access to quality project pipeline. We will continue to work with our strategic partners to not only expand within their markets but also to extend their reach overseas,” said Kevin Goh, CEO, Ascott.

Including the Ciputra partnership, The Ascott has worked to effectively increase Indonesian properties nine-fold. The Ascott now boasts more than 130 serviced residences and business hotels with nearly 22,000 units in 39 cities.

“Ciputra has enjoyed a strong partnership with Ascott for over two decades. Tapping on Ascott’s global network and deep hospitality expertise, we are confident that the serviced residences will do well, and we can enjoy good returns,” said Artadinata Djangkar, senior director, Ciputra.

The partnership comes during a time when Indonesia receives more than 12 million visitors annually, with business and leisure travel expected to continue rising through 2028.
