If you want to imbibe while flying the friendly skies with American Airlines, you’ll pay $1 more, effective Oct. 1.
American raised most drink prices: Beer now costs $8, and $9 for all spirits and wine. The increase doesn’t affect passengers in first class, business class or Main Cabin extra class, who will still get free drinks. All non-alcoholic drinks are also still free in all classes.
The airline says while prices went up, the options also expanded. The airline now has beer from Goose Island and Fat Tire, and Tito’s vodka and Woodford Reserve whiskey. Wine options include La Noria Tempranillo Cabernet Sauvignon, Les Papillons Grenache Rose and La Montagne Noire Sauvignon Blanc.
Southwest Airlines raised its prices similarly earlier this year. Passengers now pay $6 for wine and beer and $7 for spirits.
No other airlines have shown they will follow suit.
