At the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi in Santa Fe, New Mexico, art and textiles created by local Native American artists grace the 58 guestrooms and public spaces. At the entranceway are hand-painted carved doors. Works of art by Native American artists, including renowned artist Raymond Chee, can be found throughout. The property also boasts a distinctive collection of handcrafted textiles. Now, Destination Ambassador Peter Camara helps curate private, bespoke guest experiences exploring the centuries-old craft traditions of this region’s indigenous Pueblo people.

Guests can embark on a half-day excursion to Chimayó, where they’ll meet a multigenerational family who carry on textile and weaving traditions dating all the way back to the arrival of Spanish settlers. During their visit, guests will sit in the company of the weavers to learn techniques, stories and history connected to this unique craft tradition, singularly linked to the people of this specific valley in the upper Rio Grande.

Have you ever wondered who’s behind those fantastical giant papier-mâché festival puppets known as “Mojigangas?” In San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, guests at Rosewood San Miguel de Allende can learn the art from Mojigangas Master Hermes Arroyo, who creates these massive puppets. Guests can also take part in an introduction to local cultural traditions during visits to six working artisan studios, each representing a different craft. This tour features a wool weaver, fine jewelry designer Mario Godínez, a latón brass workshop, the tile artist who crafted the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel’s hand-painted interiors, a papier-mâché workshop belonging to the Lugo family, and a studio that creates blown glass and candle decorations. The resort itself features brass works by Joel Vázquez, ceramic sculptures by Juan Carlos Salas García and wool textiles by Ramiro Rodríguez.

Also in Mexico, the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo offers guests the hands-on Wixárika Arts & Crafts experience. During this workshop led by local artisans, participants craft their own elaborate beadwork and colorful yarn art. Back at the hotel, guests can enjoy handwoven cotton hammocks made by 30 local women artisans, bathroom accessories that were carved from Mayan cream stone, and black clay candles from Michoacán. The property’s onsite Almanaque Natural boutique features a collection of handmade clothing, textiles, jewelry and pottery created by more than 50 artisans located in Mexico, reflecting regional techniques and unique narratives.
