Along Mexico’s Costa Grande coast, locals call one another “zanka,” a friendly term meant to convey camaraderie. This spirit is encapsulated from Dec. 12–15 when Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo beach resorts host the annual Zanka Fest. This year’s lineup of entertainment includes live music and DJs, food, beachside parties and art exhibitions. A few of the participants include Mexican urban artists Saner, artists Seher One and Itzel Nájera and visual artist Mocre.
Among the scheduled events taking place along La Ropa Beach in front of Viceroy Zihuatanejo and in the villages of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are an international surfing contest and Battle of the Paddle paddleboard event. Once the sun goes down, there are screenings of surfing films by Mark Kronemeyer and parties on La Ropa beach.
The three-day surfing competition rounds out with meet-and-greets with the competitors, artists and musicians. Celebrate the festivities with special rates for deluxe room accommodations at the Viceroy Zihuatanejo, including breakfast daily for two and passes for two to Zanka Fest activities and events.
