The World’s Best Airports According to Pilots, Flight Attendants

A recent AskReddit poll determined the world’s best airports according to the people that know the topic best: pilots and flight attendants. The discussion asked which airports flight attendants and pilots love the most — and which ones they hate.

Among the winners for the best airports is Singapore’s Changi Airport, of which one respondent said: “Singapore Changi Airport wins everything hands-down. There is actually a hotel in there where you can stay without clearing customs and immigration. If you put a change of clothes in your carry-on you can get a good eight-hour sleep in a real bed, shower and clean clothes for around $50. Sounds like a lot for a small luxury, but it’s much cheaper than a class upgrade for the flight, and allows you to get off a super long-haul flight like Sydney to London feeling more or less human, which is a huge bonus.”

Detroit (DTW) also made the list: “Easy to get around. The main terminal has a train that runs the entire length and moving walkways that actually work,” explains one attendant. “As a pilot, I find the field in general to be superb. Controllers keep it moving and rarely any backups. Even when the snow hits and de-icing is needed, they move smoothly enough along.”

Zurich (ZRH) was also mentioned for being efficient and modern — in true Swiss sensibility. And check-in closes only 35 minutes before take-off on European flights.

Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP) made the cut, in large part due to its bar and restaurant options. Ditto Santa Barbara (SBA), for its good looks and for being compact and well-run.
